Julius Indongo: record, next fight and profile →
Julius Indongo and his team have arrived to Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon for his historic super lightweight unification bout against Terence Crawford. The undefeated pugilists will share a ring August 19 close to Crawford’s home in Lincoln, Nebraska, serving as the mian event of a Top Rank promoted card televised live on ESPN.
Russian light welterweight power hitter Eduard Troyanovskiy (26-1, 23 KOs) is looking carefully at the upcoming unification between WBC/WBO 140lb king Terence Crawford and unified Super WBA/IBF/IBO champion Julius Indongo of Namibia, which takes place on August 19.
Julius Indongo is scheduled to have far and away the biggest fight in his career on August 19th when he takes on P4P top-5 rated Terence Crawford at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. These two pugilists are the only reigning titleholders at the super lightweight division today.
The IBF's top rated rated super lightweight Sergey Lipinets, and his handlers, aren't happy that the International Boxing Federation has granted an exemption for Julius Indongo (who holds the IBF, IBO and WBA 140-pound titles) to face WBC, WBO champion Terence Crawford on August 19th in a match-up that will crown one unified champion in the division. ESPN will televise the contest.
WBA/IBF/IBO unified champion Julius Indongo (22-0, 11 KO’s) is preparing for the biggest challenge of his boxing career. After dispatching previously unbeaten Eduard Troyanovsky in Russia and outclassing three-division champion Ricky Burns in Scotland, the Namibian pugilist is now planning to travel to the United States to face WBC/WBO/Lineal champion Terence Crawford (31-0, 22 KO’s).
The rumble between Crawford, the two-division world champion and the holder of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), World Boxing Council (WBC) and The Ring magazine world titles and Indongo, the International Boxing Federation (IBF), International Boxing Organization (IBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) world champion, making his U.S. debut, will be televised live and exclusively at 10 p.m. EDT on ESPN and ESPN Deportes and stream live on the ESPN app.
Julius Indongo has every reason to feel confident about boxing Terence Crawford next month in Crawford’s home state of Nebraska. The unbeaten Namibian southpaw is a decided underdog against Crawford, but he has convincingly won each of his past two world title fights in the respective homelands of his opponents.
Junior welterweight contender Sergey Lipinets will not get a mandatory crack at champion Julius Indongo, according to the Russian boxer's manager Alex Vaysfeld. Lipinets is the mandatory challenger under the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the sanctioning body has ordered Indongo to meet his mandatory obligation.
It seems the possibility of a Terence Crawford vs Julius Indongo junior-welterweight super fight has got a second wind. The idea of such a match-up was born in the minds of boxing fans when IBF/IBO 140-pound champ Indongo (21-0, 8 KO’s) travelled to Glasgow, Scotland to unifiy with WBA titlist Ricky Burns (41-6-1, 14 KO’s) this last April.
New York - WBC/WBO world champion Terence Crawford (31-2, 22 KO’s) did what he normally does on Saturday night; take a formidable opponent and make him look like he doesn’t belong in the same ring. Felix Diaz (19-2, 9 KO’s) is an Olympic gold medalist and a very credible junior welterweight who many felt had defeated Lamont Peterson in a controversial decision loss
