Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Stops Peter Manfredo in Five

Reliant Arena, Houston, Texas - WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1, 31KOs) stopped Peter Manfredo Jr. (37-7, 20KOs) in the fifth round. In the fifth, Chavez hurt Manfredo with a wicked counter right hand and then started battering him against the ropes. Referee Laurence Cole tried to give Manfredo time to recover but Manfredo did little to defend himself and he did not punch back, which promoted the Cole to step in. Prior to the stoppage, Manfredo put forth a good effort and made it a fight. Chavez retains his title for the first time.
I don't get why people hate on Jr. so much on this website...
Look, this kind of comment makes you look like Jr-nuthugger. I'm just sayin'

I could see why the ref stopped the fight. Manfredo just stood there like a punching bag.

it was a bad stoppage. the ref couldn't wait to jump in and stop the fight. chavez jr. is truly a protected fighter. if he let a "c" fighter like manfredo back him up most of the fight, he shouldn't…

Just as long as Chavez Jr doesn't start thinking he's a legitimate champion at MW yet. Fight Sergio or give the belt back to him

I thought the stoppage was early.
