Former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs) revealed that he could possibly return to the ring in July or August against Gabriel Rosado at 168 pounds, and also revealed that in the coming days he could potentially rehire Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, on the advice of his father, the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez.
Chavez could not move forward with a scheduled April fight against Badou Jack after suffering a heel injury that prevented him from training for at least three to four weeks. And before he goes for a world championship at super middleweight, he wants to first get himself into a rhythm.
"Tentatively I'm coming back in July. I want a date in that month or in August. I have been training here at home with Tiburcio Garcia, but this week or the following I want to talk to Freddie Roach to retrain him . My dad told me to train with him. He is good coach and also he's very close to home. I had a plan to train with Robert Garcia, but I'll talk to Freddie," Chavez Jr. told ESPN Deportes.
Rosado is at the top of the list for Chavez's return, but Alfredo Angulo has also been mentioned as well.
"What I need is to get things going quickly. Freddie knows me, I know him. I have the discipline and soon you will see the results. I know that by winning I could go for a world championship with Badou Jack or James DeGale or (Gilberto ) 'Zurdo' Ramirez, " Chavez Jr. said.
"There has been talk of [returning against] Alfredo Angulo, Gabriel Rosado. I think it would be good with Rosado. He fought well at middleweight just like me. He's in good shape, he's fought all of the best names and I think people will like having our styles go against each other but we'll see."
