Juergen Braehmer Dominates Abatangelo Over Twelve

by Alexey Sukachev & Per Ake Persson

Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany - EBU light hevayweight champion Juergen Braehmer (41-2, 31KOs) dominated Stefano Abatangelo (17-3-1, 6KOs) over twelve rounds to earn a unanimous decision. The scores were 119-108, 119-108 and 115-111. Braehmer dominated the action for the first five rounds. The challenger began to find a few openings in the fifth, with Braehmer knocking him back. Braehmer went back to boxing in ths sixth, tagging the head and body. Abatangelo was cut over both eyes, from head clashes, going into the seventh. Braehmer more or less controlled the action to the end, landing better and doing the better work.

Both boxers were warned numerously by the referee (Phil Edwards of the United Kingdom) for various dirty tactics. Much shorter Abatangelo (5'7'' to 6'0'' of Braehmer) had only one option, and that was to go on the inside. He didn't have much success in doing so, but applied multiple rules violations instead. He was deducted a point in round five for constant punching after the break command - a foul, Braehmer was also warned for several times during the bout. Most of the rounds were indentical, except for the fact Abatangelo fought the second half of the bout with a cut over his left eye.

BoxingScene viewed it 117-110 - also for the WBO #1, IBF/WBA #3 and WBC #8 rated German.

Maybe he's waiting for Shumenov to get stripped since Shumenov hasn't fought a warm body in more than three years and hasn't defended against anybody in more than a year.
Brahemer waiting for Kovalev to get stripped...
Me personally i think Kovalev would take the fight in a heartbeat if ordered now or whenever they do it unless he gets offered a HBO megafight in 2014.
Shumenov has already attempted to fight Braehmer on january 8th 2011 in a WBA WBO unification fight but Braehmer flew out of Kazakhstan a couple of days before the fight without telling anyone and then when asked where he was…
