Former two division world champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (31-2, 28KOs) was laughing at the recent taunts by his countryman, super bantamweight contender Wilfredo "Papito" Vazquez Jr. (22-2-1, 19KOs).
This past Saturday at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Vazquez stopped Jonathan Oquendo in seven rounds. Juanma and Oquendo are good friends. After the bout was over, Vazquez and Juanma traded words. The two fighters have traded words in the past.
"Juanma has been looking for challenges, and I like fighting with the super heroes. Although the only thing that he's the hero of is Lazy Town [a cartoon program]," Vazquez told Raul Alzaga.
“I said to Juanma that I was ready for him, but he's conceited and believes that he's the last Coca-Cola in the desert. He had a good run and I am glad for him. He says 'pay me what I deserve’. Who does he think he is? [Floyd] Mayweather? A [fighter] with 11 defeats [Orlando Salido] beat him twice in his own house. [Juanma] has power, but he has no talent. I'm here to fight with him whenever he wants, and if it happens - he will end up worse than Oquendo."
Juanma said that his comments to Vazquez have nothing to do with being conceited. He is ready to fight Vazquez if their promoters reach an agreement.
"With all due respect, he's right. I'm not Floyd Mayweather. But he is not Juanma Lopez. The reality is that I earn three to four times [more money per fight] than what [Vazquez] receives for a fight," Juanma told Jose Sanchez.
"This is simple. If he wants to fight me, all he has to do is tell his promoter Tutico Zabala, who is a good friend of mine, to call Peter Rivera. They can meet with my manager Orlando Pinero, reach an agreement, and we'll fight."
