Juan Montes, Kaliesha West Win Bouts in Manzanillo

By Miguel Rivera

Casino Black Pyramid, Manzanillo, Mexico - Kaliesha "Wild Wild" West (14-1-3, 4KOs)made a successful defense of her bantamweight crown of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), with a fast paced ten round unanimous decision over Mexico's Jessica Villafranca. West gave a good demonstration of boxing and power. After ten rounds, the scores were 97-95, 99-91 and 96-94.

Despite some problems with making the weight, super flyweight contender Juan José "Goofy" Montes (20-2, 13KOs) stopped Samuel "Samy" Reyes in three rounds. Montes promised to stop him within five. After four knockdowns, the referee saved Reyes from further punishment.

Also on the card, welterweight Ricardo "Dinamta" Alvarez (9-1-2, 3KOs), brother of Saul and Rigoberto Alvarez, stopped Leonardo "Nene" Córdova in two rounds. Alvarez did not hesitate to go all out and engaged in a great exchange of punches during the action.

In a featherweight bout, Rafael 'Chocho' Guzmán and Venezuela's Rafael Hernández fought to a twelve round majority draw. The scores were 114-114, 117-112 and 114-114
