Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) could finally finalize his return date, and his comeback opponent, by next week.

Marquez, 43 years old, is hoping to break a long stint of inactivity during a scheduled meeting, taking place next week, with Zanfer Promotions. Marquez indicates that during that meeting he will establish a return date and opponent.

During his recent appearance on Golpe a Golpe, Marquez revealed the details pertaining to next week's meeting with executives from Zanfer. The Mexican veteran says he has already passed some physical tests that he completed in the Romanza Gym in Mexico.

Marquez has been out of the ring since May of 2014, when he won a twelve round decision over Mike Alvarado at The Forum in Los Angeles.

The former champion would not reveal the names being considered for his comeback fight.

"We are looking at things, working on the date. May is complicated, practically all of the dates have been distributed to several fighters. We are looking to see if June can be a good month for me," said Marquez.

"There will probably be a meeting next week with people from Zanfer and during that meeting we will make the decision on exact date and the opponent as well."

Directors from Mexico City had revealed during the week that they were very interested in having Márquez appear in their homeland to at least say goodbye, since there have been very few occasions when Juan Manuel was able to fight on home soil, as most of his career has played out in the United States.

''No doubt we are interested in fighting in Mexico. For me it would have been historic to fight on April 1 but it was coming up too fast to be ready. I needed enough time to [get properly prepared for that time period]. Instead we will look at June. I need to establish my distance and rhythm, perhaps not at one hundred percent but I will be very good [when I return to the ring," Marquez said.
