Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez revealed on Golpe a Golpe that he's practically made the decision to return to the ring. He wants the fight to take place in Mexico against a very good opponent.
Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs), 41-years-old, has been away from the ring since last May's twelve round decision victory over Mike Alvarado. Marquez's comeback has been stalled due to a lingering knee injury that prevented several potential return dates in 2014.
The problems with the knee have been stabilized, but not totally eradicated.
"We are already training, the difference is noticeable, the pace is noticed. We are training, but we do not have a set opponent or one that we're leaning towards," Marquez said.
"We have to really think about which opponent would be good. I would like to retire in Mexico City and have a fight over there to thank all the fans for their support and why not do it against a great opponent so the fans can enjoy the fight."
