In the coming days, WBO interim-junior welterweight champion Juan Manuel Márquez (54-6-1, 39KOs) is expected to announce his next opponent. Marquez will return on July 14th at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

According to a source with knowledge of the ongoing discussions, Marquez is mentioning two possibilities - former four division champion Erik Morales (52-8, 36KOs) and unbeaten Filipino lightweight Mercito Gesta (25-0-1, 13KOs). Marquez had a list of four names, with Brandon Rios and Zab Judah being the other two candidates, but he appears to be more interested in Morales and Gesta.

Morales is willing to do the fight. The problem in making the fight is Morales' existing promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Marquez is promoted by Golden Boy's rivals, Zanfer/Top Rank.

Reportedly, Morales has three fights remaining on his Golden Boy contract. Morales is expected to meet with Golden Boy on Monday at their main office in Los Angeles. The Mexican legend will discuss the situation regarding Marquez, and other career related items.
