Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs) has once against postponed a tentative return to the ring.

Several returns dates have been discussed, but they never came together.  The veteran has been dealing with a bad knee for over a year.

Marquez claims that his knee is a lot better and he was targeting a ring return for May or June. Based on his previous outline, he wanted to have a tuneup bout against a ranked opponent in the summer and then he wanted a major fight in the fall.

The Mexican veteran now indicates that his comeback is going to be pushed back to a date in July, because he's been unable to properly train and doesn't believe that he'll be ready for a ring return in in May or June.

"Most likely the fight is going to happen in July. I have not been able to train as I've wanted due to various professional and personal reasons, but I hope that in April I'll have the opportunity to train as I should, and then we will make a determination [on whether we'll fight or not fight]," Marquez told ESPN Deportes.

Marquez said he will travel next week to the United States for a personal issue and then from April will start to train hard with running and aerobics in the morning, while in the afternoon he will come to the Romanza gym to train with Nacho Beristain .

For a few months there have been rumblings of a fall bout, at a catch-weight, with former four division champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. Marquez is very interested in the fight, but says a tuneup is absolutely necessary before he even considers the possibility of facing Cotto or any other elite opponent in the fall.
