Trying not to be too cocky, Jalisco boxer Juan José "Goofy" Montes vowed to contend successfully for the super flyweight championship of the World Boxing Council (WBC), which is owned by Veracruz Tomas "Gusano" Rojas. For the last few weeks, Montes has been training with IBF champion to Cristian Mijares in Durango. Montes faces Rojas in Chiapas on May 21 on a card promoted by Zanfer and HG Boxing.

With a professional record of 19 wins, 17 by knockout and one loss, Montes said he would beat Rojas by the knockout.

"I trust in the power of my fists. I know that if I get the opportunity, I will prevent the fight from going to the scorecards," Montes said. "Rojas is a fast fighter, who has excellent movement, but I hope to beat him with speed and a powerful shot. Cristian does a great job and we both work hard. I know I will come out with my hand raised high."
