Juan Diaz-Omar Figueroa Texas Showdown Looms

By Ryan Burton

BoxingScene.com has been advised that a showdown between former lightweight champion Juan Diaz (36-4, 18KOs), and undefeated contender Omar Figueroa (21-0-1, 17KOs), is in the works. After a brief retirement Diaz returned to the ring last week with a knockout victory over Pipino Cuevas Jr. Figueroa destroyed the previously undefeated Abner Cotto with a 1st round knockout Saturday night in San Antonio.

According to our sources, the idea is for Diaz and Figueroa to headline a card in separate fights before pitting the former champion against the undefeated challenger in Diaz's hometown of Houston, TX. Figueroa hails from Weslaco, TX.

Diaz needs at least 2 more tune-up fights before taking on Panterita.
