The mandatory challenger to the WBA's 118-pound title, Dominican fighter Juan Carlos "Baby Pacquiao" Payano, believes the current champion, Panamanian Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno (34-2-1, 12KOs), is terrified of the possibility that a fight will happen.
"Moreno and his wife [who acts as his manager], are afraid to get in the ring to fight me. For a very long time I've been waiting for him to decide to fight me as the number one contender. He cannot continue hiding. I will fight him in his backyard if he wants," says Payano.
Last week Payano stayed busy, as he beat German Meraz at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem Pennsylvania.
"I'm going back to the gym in Florida as soon as possible. We are waiting for the World Boxing Association to determine the date of the fight against Chemito Moreno and we want to arrive in the best condition for that fight," Payano said.
"I'm better than Moreno and you will see that when I get in the ring to compete for the WBA bantamweight title. If they don't believe that, they just have to sign the contract for this fight and find out."
