There are discussions taking place to stage a rematch between IBF 105-pound champion Mario Rodriguez (15-6-4, 11KOs) and former beltholder Nkosinathi Joyi (22-1, 15KOs).
Last Saturday in Mexico, the boxing world was shocked when Rodriguez knocked out the previously unbeaten Joyi, a huge favorite to win, in seven rounds.
Joyi blames the heat and dehydration for losing his title. Rodriguez has agreed to a rematch and he's willing to fight Joyi in South Africa.
Joyi told Sowetan Live: "The guy has agreed to give me a rematch and he said he does not mind coming to East London. I think he is making a big mistake because I'm going to beat him this time."
"I was ahead on points when the fight was stopped. I was the last to throw a punch before the stoppage. The problem was that I couldn't breathe properly because of the heat. There was nothing I could do despite the fact that I had him under pressure."
