Heavyweight contender Joshua 'Dempsey' Gormley 22-4-0 (21 KO's) says he will face undefeated Mexican heavyweight Andy Ruiz Jr. 27-0-0 (18 KO's).

Gormley, who trains under the Dino Spencer and Luis "Chiro" Perez direction at the 5th St. Gym in Miami, Florida, told to Ringsidefightingnews; “this Friday July 1st I expects to sign the contract for that fight.”

According to the statements Gormley made from Miami, the match against Ruiz is scheduled for Saturday July 16th, at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigan in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds. This fight  will be the main event of the evening, in a card organized and presented by Dmitry Salita from ‘Salita Promotions’.

Ruiz defeated longtime heavyweight veteran Ray Austin in the 4th round in his last fight on May-14 of this year in California. He was defending his NABF title that he captured in 2013 against Tom Hamer at the Cotai Arena in China.

Gormley has been training in Miami a long time ago and told us: "I am anxious, I hope to sign the contract on Friday July 1 and then focus on the final details of my preparation for this fight"

Asked about his chance to beat Ruiz, a very confident Gormley said: "I'm completely sure I can beat Ruiz Jr. I've been waiting for this opportunity for a long time, and I'll show everyone that I can be at the best level within heavyweights"
