Josh Taylor: record, next fight and profile →
During what was always likely going to be a tense fight week, Jamie Moore affords himself a laugh. His boxer, Jack Catterall, is preparing for the grudge fight of the year so far, against his old rival Josh Taylor.
Given the omnipresence of world boxing titles, varying from the interim to the super and the gold to the silver, it’s a surprise that one has not (yet) been attached to Saturday’s (May 25) super lightweight rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall. After all, the last time these pair exchanged dukes a little over two years ago there was not one but four on the line with Taylor assuming the role of undisputed champion to Catterall’s unfancied challenger.
Eddie Hearn may be the rival promoter of Josh Taylor’s main domestic rival, Jack Catterall, but he was not short of praise for Scotland’s Taylor ahead of Saturday’s grudge match between the two fighters.
Josh Taylor insists the hunger remains ahead of his grudge match with Jack Catterall in Leeds on Saturday night. The 33-year-old Scot scaled the top of boxing’s mountain by winning all of the belts at junior welterweight, but through injuries, politics and inactivity parted company with three crowns outside of the ropes before losing the fourth, in the only defeat of his career, by Teofimo Lopez in New York in June 2023.
“It’s been a good few years of Josh Taylor’s name being mentioned. More than anything I wanna fight him but I’m just sick of talking about him. Fucking hell,” Jack Catterall said with a laugh before launching into his final set of media interviews.
Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall will finally fight in their grudge match over two years in the making on Saturday at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, United Kingdom. Many observers believe Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) did more than enough to beat then-undisputed super lightweight champion Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) in their 2022 tilt.
Jack Catterall’s former trainer has warned him that how he performed in his first fight with Josh Taylor will not be enough if he wants to win their rematch on Saturday night
Jamie Moore has said it will be no problem for Jack Catterall to keep his emotions in check ahead of his grudge fight with Josh Taylor. The pair rematch on Saturday at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, England, more than two years after their controversial first fight in Scotland, which Taylor won via split decision.
