As reported earlier on BoxingScene.com, Joseph Parker's upcoming mandatory WBO heavyweight boxing title bout with British boxer Hughie Fury is off.

The 25-year-old Parker was set to defend his WBO world heavyweight title for the first time against Fury at Auckland's Spark Arena (formerly Vector Arena), on the 6th of May.

However, earlier this morning the President of the WBO tweeted saying "As of today, it seems there will be no WBO Heavyweight World Title Fight in New Zealand."

Parker's promoter, Duco's David Higgins, confirmed the fight is off - he says Fury told the WBO he has an injury.

Higgins says his team are trying to find a new opponent for Parker on May 6 but the situation has left him, Parker and trainer Kevin Barry very angry.

Fury is the cousin of troubled former undisputed heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, who was stripped of his titles last year after he cancelled a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, as well as anti-doping allegations.

Duco's David Higgins said he is "shocked" with the sudden turn of events and does NOT believe Fury is injured.

"Do I think Hughie is injured? No, I don't. I think it's make-believe," Higgins told the New Zealand Herald.

Higgins, who described the Fury camp as "clowns", said his aim was that Parker, who arrived in Auckland from his Las Vegas training camp yesterday, would still fight on the scheduled date of May 6 at Auckland's Spark Arena, but that it would take some time to organise another opponent.

"We want to do the right thing by the paying public," Higgins said. "We need to show them respect and we will. We as a company need to re-group and make different arrangements and we hope to do that by tomorrow morning."
