Jose Zepeda: record, next fight and profile →
IBF, WBO, WBC junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor is not looking to move up in weight until he settles some scores at 140-pounds. One of those scores is a rematch with Jack Catterall.
Josh Taylor and Jose Zepeda continue to wait for their ordered title fight to make its way to a purse bid hearing. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the WBC has granted another extension to the already delayed junior welterweight mandatory title fight. The purse bid was originally due to take place May 24, which was pushed back by another 17 days. The June 10 date came and went without a hearing, as the session is now pushed back two more weeks to June 24.
Jose ‘Chon’ Zepeda is making power moves ahead of the biggest fight of his career. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the veteran junior welterweight contender has entered a multi-fight managerial deal with longtime influential industry figure Rick Mirigian. The deal comes as Zepeda awaits word on his mandatory title shot versus lineal/WBC/IBF/WBO champ Josh Taylor (19-0, 13KOs), which saw its original purse bid date for Tuesday pushed back to June 10.
Jack Catterall insists Josh Taylor will ‘not be a man of his word’ if he ignores a rematch between the super lightweight rivals. Catterall says Taylor had promised to give him a rematch of their controversial undisputed world title fight from earlier this year, but is currently in talks to fight his WBC mandatory, Jose Zepeda, next.
Josh Taylor has been hit with several mandatory defense orders in the last few months. A few days ago, the World Boxing Association stripped him of their world title for his failure in taking part with a mandatory defense against Alberto Puello. Taylor claims that he vacated the belt due to pressure from the sanctioning body.
Undisputed junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor has a lot of options - but it appears that he won't hold all four of the major belts at 140-pounds for too much longer.
Francisco 'Verdugo' Pérez withstood the first round simply because there wasn't much activity by either boxer, but as soon as the second round began - top junior welterweight contender Jose 'Chon' Zepeda took over the entire contest when he let his hands go.
Top rated junior welterweight Jose “Chon” Zepeda will headline a boxing card presented by Zanfer, Unión Promotions and 2M Promotions on Saturday, March 19, at the “Josué Neri Santos” Municipal Gym in Ciudad Juárez, in an event that will be broadcast live by Azteca 7.
Josh Taylor has at least one more fight to worry about, should he even choose to retain his current championship status. An overdue mandatory title fight ordered by the WBA calls for Scotland’s Taylor, the reigning undisputed lineal/WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO junior welterweight champion—to next face number-one contender Alberto Puello. The fight was formally ordered March 8, with the two sides given a 30-day negotiation period to reach a deal to avoid a purse bid hearing. The ruling is significant in that it limits Taylor’s options in the event he decides to stick around at junior welterweight after having recently vowed to be done with the division.
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has confirmed that Jose Zepeda is indeed their mandatory challenger to world champion Josh Taylor of Scotland. Taylor will first stake his WBO, WBC, WBA, IBF titles against Jack Catterall on February 26. Catterall is the mandatory challenger under the World Boxing Organization.
