Teofimo Lopez continues to enjoy his victory lap. The undefeated World lightweight king was a near consensus choice for 2020 Male Fighter of the Year. The latest such honor comes from the Boxing Writers Association of America, who have named Lopez as the recipient of the Sugar Ray Robinson Award in recognition of the year’s best boxer.
By Cliff Rold - Throughout the week, BoxingScene has provided readers their choices for the annual boxing Oscars (or Emmys, or Golden Globes, or Nickelodeon Kids or whatever trophies one most anticipates). The top honors, for Fighter (Teofimo Lopez) and Fight (Jose Zepeda-Ivan Baranchyk), were well deserved and the latter may be in the running for Fight of the Decade. Wh...
By Keith Idec - The overused adjective “great” doesn’t do justice to the inconceivable violence Jose Zepeda and Ivan Baranchyk produced October 9. Their unbelievable brawl included an incredible eight knockdowns, four apiece for Zepeda and Baranchyk, and two rounds in which both boxers went down. Even with fewer categories this year, three previous honorees are in the hunt to repeat in the year-end awards. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Eddy Reynoso and Keith Connolly are among the 2019 year-end recipients who have made their way back to the ballot among the nominees announced for the 2020 Boxing Writers Associations of America (BWAA) awards. Just five categories will be featured for this year’s awards, with the list of nominees formally announced by the organization on Monday.

Jose “Chon” Zepeda officially received the belt that accredits him as WBC silver junior welterweight world champion, at a press conference held at the Zanfer executive offices. From the hands of WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, and serving as honorary witnesses - the president of Zanfer, Fernando Beltrán, and the recently appointed president of Fecombox, Juan Carlos Pelayo - Zepeda said he felt privileged and proud to receive the belt, which he warned that he hopes to turn gold in the near future.
Jose 'Chon' Zepeda, the sensation of the moment, revealed that if he's not given the opportunity to fight for the junior welterweight championship in the near future, he would love to face the winner of the long-awaited lightweight battle between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez, which takes place this coming Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Arum plans to put the fight together to take place in early 2021. While Taylor (17-0, 13 KOs) is free and clear of any mandatory obligations that would interfere with the fight, that is not the case with Ramirez (26-0, 17 KOs). He is saddled with another mandatory defense against England’s unbeaten Jack Catterall.
This past Saturday night at the MGM Grand's Conference Center, Jose “Chon” Zepeda (32-2, 26 KO’s) won an extraordinary war of attrition against Ivan Baranchyk (20-2, 13 KO’s), to lift the WBC super lightweight silver belt.
