World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman is recovering well from delicate heart surgery last October 1 at the UCLA Medical Center. The WBC and the family of Don Jose Sulaiman led by his son and executive director Mauricio Sulaiman in an email to the Manila Standard said “With great joy we inform that our dear Don Jose is successfully recuperating and yesterday a major step forward was taken in his rehabilitation process after spending 50 days at Intensive Care Unit at UCLA´s Ronald Reagan Hospital.”
WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman will regrettably miss the organization’s 51st annual convention in the Thai capital of Bangkok as he recovers from major heart surgery done at the UCLA Medical Center some weeks ago. World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman disputes recent reports that WBC super featherweight champion Takashi Miura is hospitalized with numerous injuries. On Saturday night in Cancun, Miura dropped Sergio Thompson two times to win a twelve round unanimous decision. Miura survived his own knockdown in the eight round. After the match, Miura was vomiting and taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

"President Sulaiman's work as WBC's leader is admirable. He has always worked to humanize the sport and this represents another success for a man who has been instrumental in the rise of many professional boxing greats," said Mayor Regalado. Sulaiman who is 82 years old, has presided over the WBC since December 5, 1975. He was inducted into the International Hall of Fame of Canastota, NY on June 10, 2006.
WBC President Jose Sulaiman applauds the recent decision by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32KOs), who plans to use his father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., as a cornerman for the upcoming fight with Brian Vera on September 7th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Last week Chavez said he was going prevent his father from attending his training camps, stating the two of them had tension during last year's camp for the fight with Sergio Martinez. It will be the first time that Chavez enters the ring since last September's defeat to Martinez on September 15th.
