Jose Nieves (21-3-2 and 10 KO's), ranked fifth in the 118-pound rankings under the WBO after knocking out Filipino Glenn Porras to win the vacant Intercontinental title of that sanctioning body, is one or two fights away from a shot at the world title world title held by Thai boxer Pungluang Sor Singyu - but trainer Jose Bonilla did not rule out the emergence of a so-called 'last minute' fight for the crown.
"They called to tell us that he was placed at five under the WBO. I talked to Tutico Zabala and he wants to keep him active and he'll fight in February and April but we are waiting because at any time we can get a call for that title fight. We are supposed to do those two fights but you never know in this business. At any time the phone can ring," Bonilla said.
