Jose "Chelo" González, former WBO lightweight title challenger, could return to action in September on a card being staged in the United States. The fight could very well take place on the 6th of September in Laredo, Texas.
"I just talked to him and you're likely to see him action in September. He will remain at 135 and there are several opportunities. I hope today or tomorrow to sort things out [for this next fight]," revealed Peter Rivera, vice president of Puerto Rico Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP).
Gonzalez (22-1, 17 KO's), in May 2013, was a step away from being crowned the WBO lightweight champion when he faced off with titleholder Ricky Burns. Gonzalez controlled the action and he was up on all three scorecards 87-84, but withdrew from the fight at the start of the ninth round with a claimed injury to his left wrist.
