Jorge Melendez To Return on June 7th in NY, on ShoBox

By "Mr. Boxing" Giancarlo Oquendo

The interim WBO Latino/WBA Fedecaribe super welterweight champion, Jorge "Destroyer" Melendez (26-2-1-25 KO's), will return to the ring on June 7th, the day before the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City. The card will be shown on Showtime as part of their ShoBox series. The exact venue and opponent is unknown.

Melendez, who in his last fight defeated Ryan Davis by knockout in the fourth, joins former champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad and Miguel Cotto as boxers stars to appear on events connected with New York's Puerto Rican Parade.

For this fight, Melendez's handlers tried to get veteran Mexican boxer Alfonso Gomez (23-6-2-12 KO's), but he wasn't interested in moving up to face the hard-hitter.

Melendez is promoted by Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment
