Puerto Rican boxer Jorge "Destroyer" Melendez (24-2-1-23 KO's) will be making his debut as a fighter under the banner of Miguel Cotto Promotions on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York when he takes on James Winchester (15-6-5 KO's).
Melendez returns from a first round TKO over Milton Nunez (24-6-1-22 KO's) on August 31 in Carolina, Puerto Rico, while Winchester is coming back after losing a recent unanimous decision to Joey Hernandez (23 -1-1-13 KO's) in Miami, FL.
Melendez, who was scheduled to face Hector Munoz, was also being mentioned as an opponent for Carlos "El Indio" Quintana, Rigoberto Alvarez (Canelo’s older Brother) and Cesar Bazan. The constant changes did not affect his work plan and layout.
"We are doing everything the same, it's just a matter of doing the job. I do not think that affects me as I never like to train for someone specific. What I want more than anything is to give a good show to the world," Melendez said to BoxingScène.com/Mrboxingtab.com.
Melendez hopes to get his next opponent out of the way, because he already knows who he wants to next be his next victim.
"Here we are and there is no going back. We are right behind [the path of] Alfredo 'El Perro' Angulo," stated Melendez.
