Jorge Melendez Faces Javier Maciel on Cotto-Martinez

The Latin middleweight champion World Boxing Organization (WBO), the former World title challenger Javier "La Bestia" Maciel of Argentina has reached an agreement to face Puerto Rican puncher Jorge "Destroyer" Melendez for the USNBC Super Welterweight title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) on June 7th as part of the Miguel Cotto-Sergio Martinez undercard at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The fight will be televised live on HBO pay per view in the United States, and broadcast live over TYC Sports in Argentina and throughout America.

Maciel (28-3, 20 KOs) is currently ranked at No. 15 by the WBO, and Melendez (28-3-1 , 26 KOs) is currently sitting at No. 17 under the WBC. Maciel jumped in after former champion Yuri Foreman withdrew from the fight after going through a contractual issue with his management.
