Former world champion Jorge Rodrigo "Hyena" Barrios is very happy with a recent judicial decision which allows him to leave Argentina for potential fight opportunites. During a recent radio appearance on Come For All in Argentina, Barrios discussed the court's decision. Last year, Barrios was scheduled to fight Erik Morales but he was forced to withdraw after he was denied the ability to leave the country. He still wants a shot at Morales.
"I am very happy with the decision. I want to say thank you very much to the judge because I have to keep working because I have a family to support," Barrios said. "I have the potential to be champion again. I have a couple of years left and I think the life of the boxer is over when you decide it is. I have a great desire to fight. I'm very anxious to get into the ring. I want to fight with Erik Morales or any of the world champions at 135 pounds."
Barrios was unable to leave the country due to tragic car accident which killed a 20-year-old pregnant woman who was crossing the street with her mother. Barrios blames the media for painting a negative image of his character.
"It was regrettable. They sold a bad image of me. In December I was accused of hitting my son and I wasn't even there at the time. And no one came to apologize to me later on [for the allegations]. Unfortunately we are in a country where idols get kicked when we're down," Barrios said. "I never thought about quitting boxing. I never felt defeated."
