The fight will be part of the undercard to the clash between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Erislandy Lara.
Promoter Oswaldo Kuchle has big plans in store for the featherweight world champion of the WBC, Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs). If Gonzalez can defeat Guyana's Clive Atwell on May 24 in Acapulco, the next defense could come against former four division world champion Jorge "Travieso" Arce (63-7-2, 48KOs). The situation with the television networks has to be solved, as Arce fights under Azteca and Gonzalez is fighting on rival network Televisa.
Four division champion Jorge "Travieso Arce (63-7) announced his retirement from boxing after he was stopped in 3 rounds against Nonito Donaire in December, 2012. 11 months later he was back in the ring and has won both of his fights since ending his short lived retirement. Both fighters were in action this month, scoring knockout wins. Juanma stopped Daniel Ponce De Leon in the second round of their rematch, and Arce knocked out Aldimar Santos in five.
Former four division world champion Jorge "Travieso" Arce was brought to tears when he traveled to Colombia to visit José Carmona, who is still in rehab after undergoing two operations for a brain clot which developed after taking a lot of punishment in his eight round knockout loss at the hands of Arce last November in Mexico. Following the match, Carmona was not responding well and he was placed on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital, where the blood clot was discovered and he underwent two surgeries.
Former four division champion Jorge Arce (63-7-2, 48KOs) has no shortage of potential opponents. Arce says he would consider a potential fight with Fernando Montiel, but he prefers to face former super bantamweight/featherweight champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (34-3, 31KOs) of WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez. According to Juanma, a fight with Arce would have to take place at the super featherweight limit of 130-pounds, a requirement which doesn't seem to bother Arce.
