WBO super bantamweight champion Jorge "Travieso" Arce is very eager to get back in the ring. He wasn't pleased with a recent offer to face Puerto Rican contender Jonathan Oquendo. During his recent visit to Puerto Rico to get honored by the WBO, Arce received an offer to face Oquendo from promoter Ivan Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing.
"They offered less money than I had hoped to get for that fight. I told the promoter Ivan Rivera to increase the purse and I was communicating with my agent Fernando Beltran [of Zanfer Promotions]. They will have the last word," Arce said.
Arce said that he plans to make a voluntary defense in Mexico City on September 10, and then he expects to fight on the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez undercard on November 12 in Las Vegas.
"Tomorrow I'm going on vacation with my wife on a Caribbean cruise to celebrate her third month of pregnancy. It will be my fourth child. Returning from vacation I'll get to the gym, and Beltran told me that I'll make a defense on September 10 in Mexico City. At that meeting we talk about that fight, which may come against Rogers Mtagwa or another opponent," Arce said. "[For November], no opponent has been finalized, but there has been talk about Vic Darchinyan or a rematch with Wilfredo Vazquez."
