Rumors have been running wild in Puerto Rico that super bantamweight contender Jonathan Oquendo (22-2, 15KOs) had badly dropped Juan Manuel Lopez (31-1, 28KOs) during a recent sparring session. Both fighters are training together for their upcoming bouts on March 10th at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Oquendo will appear on the undercard, while Lopez challenges WBO champion Orlando Salido in the main event.
Oquendo denied the widespread rumor to Jose Sanchez - "Those are rumors. Our sparring sessions have gone well. None of that happened. The sparring we do is not strong, and simply done to learn. Do not listen to any of that."
Juanma was the last man to beat Oquendo, with a third round TKO in February 2008. The two have since become good friends.
