Puerto Rico's Jonathan Oquendo (22-2, 15KOs), the WBO's number-one ranked boxer at 122-pounds, may possibly return to action in the month of September. Oquendo suffered a bad arm injury in a tragic accident while driving an ATV. Oquendo's girlfriend was killed from the injuries she suffered in the crash.
Before a concrete return date is set, Oquendo needs to receive clearance from his doctors and he has to resolve a possible criminal case with the local authorities. Neither Oquendo or his girlfiend were wearing helmets at the time of the crash and he was driving on a road where ATV use is prohibited.
"I thank God. Physically I'm doing very well and at the moment it's just a matter of dealing with the mental aspect. On the 20th I have an appointment [with my doctor]. He will give me the green light to train. And hopefully by September or October I can fight again," Oquendo said.
