Johnriel Casimero will defend his newly won IBF light flyweight interim title against Mexico’s Sammy “Guty”Gutierrez (31-7-2, 10 KO’s) in Cebu City on May 13.

International matchmaker and promoter Sampson Lewkowicz who is a partner of Cebu promoter Sammy Gello-ani announced the title defense  after personally handing over the IBF belt to Casimero at a ceremony at the SM Activity Center in Cebu.

Casimero will face the 26 year old Gutierrez while waiting for injured champion Ulises Solis whose jaw was broken into two places as a result of a beating from WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez which resulted in charges being filed against the popular fighter by Solis.

The IBF has given Solis time until October 31 to face Casimero otherwise the Filipino would be declared regular champion.

Gello-ani revealed that Solar Sports represents Solis in the Philippines and they had already contacted him regarding a Casimero-Solis showdown.

Gutierrez scored a 5th round TKO over Filipino Roilo Golez last October 1 in Mexico before losing by an 8th round TKO to Armando Torres in a WBC silver title fight on on December 10, 2011.

Gutierrez came back to score a ten round unanimous decision over Carlos Ruben Dario Ruiz on March 3, 2012.

The 10th round TKO victory of Casimero over rugged Luis Lazarte of Argentina in a fight marred by a post-fight riot will be telecast by AKTV IBC 13. The telecast date and time will be announced soon.

Lazarte was banned by the IBF for threatening the referee and biting Casimero twice during the fight. He was also suspended indefinitely by the Argentine Boxing Federation.
