WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (52-7, 45KOs) is ready for the next challenge, after overcoming mandatory challenger Elio Rojas last Saturday in Cancun. Before returning to Mexico City, Gonzalez announced that his promoter is already negotiating his next fight, a unification bout against fellow Mexican Orlando Salido, who holds the WBO featherweight crown. Gonzalez would like to have that fight in June if possible.
"My promoter Reginaldo Kuchle is trying to get that fight. It really interests me and I think its a good idea," Gonzalez said.
Orlando Salido (38-11-2, 26KOs) is one of the toughest possible opponents for Gonzalez. He recently knocked out Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico, twice. Salido is reportedly going to return on July 21 in Obregon but no opponent has been booked. Gonzalez said that he will rest for about ten days and then fly to El Paso, Texas, to meet with his promoter Oswaldo Kuchle and set his next fight.
