Jhonny Gonzalez Could End Up Facing Elio Rojas Next

By Miguel Rivera

Mexico's Jhonny Gonzalez, the world featherweight champion of the WBC, recently met with the sanctioning body's president, Jose Sulaiman. The head of the WBC advised Gonzalez that he will have to defend his title against Elio Rojas, the WBC's featherweight champion in recess, in the near future.

Rojas was placed in the recess category after suffering a hand injury that had him sidelined since last February.

"Jhonny Gonzalez will have to defend his featherweight belt against the Dominican Elio Rojas, the world champion in recess, who lost the belt due to a hand injury," said Sulaiman.

Gonzalez won the world featherweight belt on April 8 after knocking out Japanese boxer Hozumi Hasegawa and made his first defense against Tomas Villa on July 9 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The date being mentioned for his next fight is September 17 and he plans to resume training on Monday at the Romanza Gym with Nacho Beristain.

Hell yeah!!! Make this fight. Rojas needs a tune-up first. He's been out forever.

Yeah I saw Rojas at the Gonzalez fight in AC. I would like to see the winner fight the Salido Juanma 2 winner.
