In a recent conversation with Ryan Burton and Chris Robinson of BoxingScene.com, undefeated junior welterweight contender Jessie Vargas revealed that he has enlisted the services of respected trainer Ismael Salas for his April 12th showdown against Khabib Allakhverdiev. Salas has trained many world class fighters such as Yuriorkis Gamboa.
Vargas had been training with Robert Alcazar who worked with Oscar De La Hoya early in his career. With Salas living in Las Vegas, Vargas feels that the Cuban will be a better fit to train him.
"We are going to be a stronger fighter and a better fighter at 140. I am going to train in Las Vegas at the Top Rank gym like I always do. I am working with Ismael Salas. We are putting together a good game plan," said Vargas.
"Alcazar is a great trainer too but he is in Ontario so it is a little harder. Salas is here in Las Vegas and is also a great trainer so it works better for me," he concluded.
