Jessie Vargas Interested in Aligieri Unification Clash
By Ryan Burton
WBA/IBO junior welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (24-0, 9KOs) is currently in the middle of his training camp for his August 2nd clash against undefeated challenger Anton Novikov (29-0, 10KOs). While he is focused on Novikov, Vargas said that he was impressed with Chris Algieri's victory over Ruslan Provodnikov to capture the WBO title this past Saturday night.
"Aligieri boxed well and he seems like a good guy. I'm glad he won," Vargas stated.
The Las Vegas based Vargas didn't want to look too far ahead but said that he would be interested in a unification fight with Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) in the future.
"Yes, that's what I was thinking about. I hope he waits until after my fight to make a decision on his next fight," Vargas told Boxingscene.com.

2nd that: Vargas is boring. Vargas has a great chin, but he is WAY too big for the 140lb division. Every time I see him fight I think he needs one or two more fights to fight for a title.…Comment by TOBYLEE1 on 06-17-2014
This would be a good fight. The winner will move on to bigger and better fights and would be a legit one of the best of the division.Comment by dinero fan on 06-17-2014
