BoxingScene.com recently spoke with highly regarded manager Frank Espinoza. The Southern California based boxing manager has guided the likes of Israel Vazquez, Abner Mares, Daniel Ponce De Leon, and several other champion fighters.
One of his current fighters looking to make a name for himself is undefeated super bantamweight prospect Jessie Magdaleno (22-0). The Las Vegas, Nev. based prospect is looking to make the jump from prospect to contender and then champion in a hurry.
Espinoza said that they are going to watch the December 11th clash for the WBO super bantamweight title with great interest. Former four-division champion Nonito Donaire will face Cesar Juarez in Puerto Rico for the vacant title in a bout televised by truTV.
"Jessie is ranked #3 by WBO at super bantamweight. Donaire and Juarez are ranked #1 and #2 so it would seem likely that Jessie will probably be ranked number #1 after they fight," explained Espinoza.
The 24-year-old Magdaleno has gone 3-0 in 2015 and last fought in October. Espinoza said that he wants to keep his fighter active and won't just have him sit around waiting for the title shot.
"We want one fight and then face the winner. Either one of them. I don't want Jessie to get lost in the mix. We want our promoter to make it happen," Espinoza told BoxingScene.com.
With both Magdaleno and Donaire promoted by Top Rank and Juarez promoted by Zanfer Promotions (who works closely with Top Rank), the fight shouldn't be hard to make.
2015 has been a good year for the Espinoza stable. Two-time Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez has gone 3-0 on the year and made his HBO and truTV debuts and will finish out the year with a fight on December 12th. Ronny Rios defeated Jayson Velez on the Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view undercard and Antonio Orozco had an exciting victory over Emmanuel Taylor in May on a truTV card.
Espinoza predicts that 2016 will be even bigger for his stable.
"2016 will be a breakout year for my guys. Rios, Valdez, Orozco, Magdaleno and the rest of my guys will have a great year. We have some even younger guys as well who will become more well known," said Espinoza.
