Jessie Magdaleno Discusses Diego's Left Hand Injury

By Ryan Burton

Undefeated super bantamweight prospect Jessie Magdaleno will return to the ring on December 6th at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. against Jonathan Arrellano (13-1-1). The fight will be aired on special edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights and the NABO Youth title will be at stake.

Magdaleno appeared on Tuesday's edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene's official audio show. In addition to his upcoming fight, Magdaleno spoke about his brother Diego's hand injury that forced him to pull out of his scheduled December 7th fight that was to be aired by Azteca.

"From what we heard he has a little crack in a bone in his left hand and it is also bruised.  He did the MRI [on Tuesday]," Jessie stated. He said the injury occurred during sparring.  "He landed a beautiful uppercut and with that punch he hurt his hand. He wanted to fight anyway but we told him he should take a break and let it heal."

The Magdaleno brothers have appeared on numerous cards together.  Jessie said that they don't get nervous watching each other fight and that it motivates them even more when they see each other do well.

"Its exciting for us. We get hyped up. We get ready to go. We are both in tremendous shape to fight. Me and Diego both like to put on a show," Magdaleno revealed.

The 21-year-old Las Vegas resident is one of the top prospects in the sport. With blazing speed and power in both hands, the Mexican-American is sure to be a fan favorite. The southpaw can't wait for his fight next week and feels that his speed is his greatest asset.

"I am ready to show the fans what I am capable of. On December 6th it's just another day in the office for me.

"I think speed is my biggest attribute. As soon as I let my hands go I see in their eyes that they don't want to fight.  They back off and they try to stay away," Magdaleno told The Boxing Lab.
