Jenkins Made a Big Impression With Prizefighter Win

Chris Jenkins cashed in on the chance to take part in Prizefighter - light-welterweights III by stopping Danny Connor at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.

The Welshman, fighting for the first time as a professional outside of his homeland, recorded points victories over Tony Owen and Eren Arif in the earlier rounds before needing only a round-and-a-half to triumph in the final.

A superb right hand put Connor down in the opener and although he bravely rose to his feet to make it through to the bell, the same shot soon had him down again.

Jenkins poured on the pressure when he spotted his opponent was hurt and second time around Connor was unable to recover in time to stop the ref from waving the contest off.

"I've had three fights in one night in England and I've won all three of them - I'm over the moon," he told Sky Sports.

"I know I can bang, as you've seen there, but I've got the work ethic to go with it as well."

"I've only done a six-round fight and a couple of fours, perhaps a couple more fights and then maybe go for the Welsh area title and then hopefully step up then."

The manner of Jenkins' success secured him an extra £2,000 on top of the overall top prize of £32,000 - and it seems the champion already has plans for the money in place.

When asked if he intended to use his well-earned winnings to get married to his girlfriend, he quipped: "We will see now. I've been with her (his girlfriend) for a while now and you can't string her along for too long, can you?"

"I think we will get married, either this year or next year."

Promoter Eddie Hearn was certainly impressed by Jenkins, saying: "They say the cream rises to the top and he was a different level tonight.

"His fitness was unbelievable. He had a great engine. He stung me for £2,000 on the end just to rub it in, so well done."

Surely Jenkins has earned a crack at Welsh area titlist Jason Cook!
