Jayson Velez: I'm Ready For The Best Featherweights

Jayson "La Maravilla" Vélez says he is prepared to face the biggest names in boxing

With great enthusiasm and looking forward to his next week fight, undefeated featherweight prospect Jayson "La Maravilla" Vélez said he is ready to face the biggest names in the featherweight division.

"To be the best I have to beat the best. That is the goal of every fighter”,  said Vélez (16-0, 12 KOs) amidst a media workout held in Juncos Boxing Gym.  Vélez will be the main star of "Imparable" (Unstoppable), which will go on stage on Friday, October 14th at the Coliseo Rafael G. Juncos Amalbert.

"La Maravilla" Vélez who was accompanied by the Mayor of Juncos, Alfredo "Papo" Alejandro, said he is convinced that the jump to 126 pounds is the best decision for his career.

"As I said, I need to always get to the ring at 100 percent, and now at 126 pounds we know that we will achieve that goal," said the hard-hitting puncher.  He also said that his immediate goal is to get a regional title in the featherweight division and later search for the world championship at the end of next year.

"We are working step by step to get to the title opportunity and my promoter (Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment), is doing a great job getting me there," he said.

Total support of the Juncos City Mayor

Vélez thanked the support of the Juncos City Mayor Hon. Alfredo "Papo" Alejandro in the development of his career. "Papo has always been there in my career and I thank him for always supporting me," said Velez. While the mayor said  that "La Maravilla" represents part of its commitment to promote sports in the City of Juncos.

"We are supporting Jayson at every step of the way, and will continue to do so. We are currently building a new boxing gym for both Jayson Vélez so all of our boxers have adequate facilities to practice the sport of boxing. Athletes feel better when they have good and better facilities to workout”, the Mayor said.
