Undefeated super bantamweight Jayson 'La Maravilla' Velez said his short-term goal is to win the WBO title in his division. Currently he is ranked tenth, noting that if Wilfredo 'Papito' Vazquez Jr. continues to remain the champion, he will have no choice but to confront him in the ring.
"He's great fighter and is very humble. I like his attitude in the ring but we will end up being possible opponents, although it's understood that he is preparing to move up to 126 pounds. Otherwise, he will be a stone in my path. I'm training to fight whoever is in the middle," revealed the boxer who is 14-0 with 11 knockouts.
Velez, easy to talk to, said that he expects to fight for the title by the end of the year.
"But if the opportunity arises before then, we will take it. If it's Vazquez, and if not, then whatever. The important thing is to fight for the world title and fight whoever they put in front of me," Velez said.
