Javier Gallo Talks About His Fight With Khabir Suleymanov

By Ryan Burton

Javier Gallo of Tijuana, Mexico (16-2) faces undefeated Russian Khabir Suleymanov  (10-0) on October 22nd at the Civic Auditorium in Glendale, California on Friday, October 22nd.  Since losing his pro debut the Mexican bantamweight has won 15 of his last 16 fights.  Gallo talks about the keys to the fight and also weighs in on Pacquiao-Margarito in this exclusive interview found only on BoxingScene.com.

BoxingScene.com:  Tells us about your upcoming fight with Khabir Suleymanov.

Javier Gallo:  It is going to be for the WBO NABO bantamweight title.  I am very excited about this opportunity I have been given to fight for a title in the U.S.  I have been training very hard.  I am excited about stepping in the ring and I am ready to go.  I know I am going to win.

BoxingScene.com:  Have you ever seen Suleymanov fight before?

Javier Gallo:  No I haven't seen any video on him but I am prepared for anything that he may bring.  I am ready to go with whatever comes my way.  We are ready to go all 10 rounds if we have too.

BoxingScene.com:  What does a win over an undefeated fighter like Suleymanov do for your career?

Javier Gallo:  A fight is a fight you know?  It doesn't matter if he is undefeated or not.  I will fight whoever they put in front of me.  At the same time I am excited about it.  Beating an undefeated guy and getting the title should open some doors for me.

BoxingScene.com:  Assuming you get the win like you plan who would you like to fight next?

Javier Gallo:  I don't really have any particular fighter in mind but I would like to be able to fight a known fighter.  Someone with a title.  I want a chance to prove myself versus a champion so I can show everyone that I am a good fighter.

BoxingScene.com:  Your last fight was over 9 months ago and it was a 6 round fight.  Are you confident that you will be able to go a full 10 rounds for the first time in your career if you need to go the distance?

Javier Gallo:  We are ready to go the 10 rounds if we need to.  We trained hard.  Hopefully it won't go the full 10 rounds but if needed I am ready to go all 10 rounds.

BoxingScene.com:  Earlier this week Suleymanov was quoted on BoxingScene.com predicting that he would knock you out in the 8th or 9th round.  What are your thoughts on his prediction?

Javier Gallo:  He has said many things and he can talk all he wants.  There is a lot I could say but I really don't want to say anything.  I am not looking for any notoriety and I don't need to talk any junk.  I am just looking to go in there and get the win.  Getting the win will get me the recognition that I want.  We aren't worried about anything he says.

BoxingScene.com:  Who do you think is going to win the mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito who is also from Tijuana?

Javier Gallo: Margarito for sure.  We are 100% behind Margarito.

BoxingScene.com:  Do you have a message for the fans?

Javier Gallo:  I only want to say that we are going to win the fight and it will be a great fight.  I want to thank all the fans that support me.  October 22nd will be a great night of boxing so come out and watch it.
