Javier Fortuna Fired Up: I'll Fight Mikey Garcia Anywhere!

By Ben Jacobs

Super featherweight contender Javier Fortuna (25-0-1, 18 KOs) may be relaxing on vacation in Puerto Rico, but he was fired up in a BoxingScene telephone conversation when discussing current WBO champion Mikey García.

Fortuna has previously held the WBA interim title at featherweight but now feels he merits a shot at the Californian who is currently in dispute with his promoter, Top Rank.
The Dominican Republic native had earlier uploaded a photo of himself on his Twitter account accompanied by a challenge to García.

“If I get the opportunity to fight him, I’ll fight anywhere he wants, never mind where the promoter says,” Fortuna insisted.

“He’s been on the floor a couple of times recently but when he gets up it seems his opponents are scared.  If I knock him down, if I land a good shot, it will be very difficult for him to get up.”

‘El Abejón’ was victorious at the end of last month with a ten round unanimous decision over Juan Antonio Rodríguez.

“I was happy in Las Vegas, I had a lot of support, I hope they give me another chance to fight on HBO and I give another demonstration of what I can do.

“I want to fight Micky García.  If he’s a champion he’ll accept the challenge.”

This would be a good fight. When the hell is Mickey fighting again anyway? Why do people not like him all of the sudden? Seems like some people hate just to hate. smh

[QUOTE=chepe009;14652501]I'd never compare him to Judah talent or traits wise, what I'm comparing is that they both are fast starters but run out of gas in the second half of the fight. I also do agree he has way too…

[QUOTE=illpapi;14652219]Well, I must say I disagree with your take on Fortuna. I don't think there is very much comparison between him and Judah. Fortuna has shown that he has heart which Judah in my opinion lacked. Also, part of the…

I've seen Fortuna on FNF and he's talented but not in the elite level that Mikey is in, not even close.........like Angel would say "He's on ESPN level"

[QUOTE=chepe009;14651870]I'mfrom the Dominican Republic like Fortuna is, but even I'd tell you garcia KOs this dude. He's a younger version of Judah, had a ton of talent but only fights for 5-6 rounds. In addition, garcia in my mind is…
