James DeGale's representative has issued a statement revealing that the Super middleweight contender has split with current promoter Mick Hennessy with immediate effect. Ambrose Mendy, who represents DeGale, 18-1 (12), issued a statement this evening explaining that the London-based southpaw now considers himself a free agent.
'Olympic Gold Medalist and current WBC Silver Champion, James DeGale MBE, has with immediate effect terminated his promotional agreement with Hennessy Sports Worldwide Limited (HSWL) the promotional company operated by Mick Hennessy.
'Mick Hennessy is no longer authorised to make representations of any kind for on behalf of James DeGale. Notwithstanding any legal action on both sides, which take in excess of one year, James DeGale is now and at all times hereafter free to negotiate with any of the licensed operators in the International arena of Boxing business.

DeGale, 28, joined Hennessy after splitting with Frank Warren in 2012, he has posted six wins under Hennessy's guidance and appeared live on Channel 5. His last win was an eleventh-round TKO over Gevog Khatchikian in March, a WBC Silver 168lb title defence that he hopes will go a long way to setting up a world title challenge to WBC titlist Sakio Bika. The former Olympian is currently rated at number two by the WBC, one place below Julio Cesar Chavez Junior.

Seems strange timing, I wonder whether this is an indicator that he's not getting a shot at Bika and he's pissed that Hennessy couldn't deliver it?Comment by Box-Office on 04-04-2014
