James DeGale Eyes Andre Ward Shot, Farias Up First

By Edward Chaykovsky

James DeGale (14-1, 9KOs) will defend his WBC Silver super middleweight championship on March 23rd against Pablo Farias (24-2, 16KOs) at Glow, Bluewater in Kent. The fight will be televised by WealthTV and streamed on wealthtv.com. Faraias has won five in a row since being stopped by Arthur Abraham in five rounds last January in Germany.

DeGale's promoter Mick Hennessy wants to get his boxer in line for a shot at WBC full champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14KOs) by the end of the year. DeGale will likely have to wait his turn, with Sakio Bika winning a WBC final eliminator on Saturday night to climb up the ladder for a mandatory fight with Ward.

“By the end of this year, we are looking to become the mandatory challenger for WBC world champion Andre Ward," Hennessy told The Sun.

Financially, a Froch fight is the best option for DeGale. Even if he loses v Kessler, his standing and popularity will be through the roof.
