Jackie Nava, Rafael Marquez Score Big Wins in Tijuana

By Rafael Soto

Tijuana, BC. -  Tijuana Jackie "Aztec Princess" Nava retained her super bantamweight title of World Boxing Association (WBA) with a ten round decision over Colombian Diana Ayala Zanfer at the Municipal Auditorium in Tijuana. Jackie (27-4-2, 11 KOs) used her boxing ability, a strong jab and rapid movements to outbox Ayala (13-7-0, 7 KOs) over the distance. Ayala was stunned in the last two rounds, but stayed on her feet. All three judges had it 100-90.

In the co-feature, former champion Rafael Marquez crushed Eric Aiken in one round. Marquez (41-7-0, 37 KOs) hurt Aiken (20-9-0, 13 KOs) early, pinned him against the ropes and landed combinations to the head and body. Aiken visited the canvas from the accumulation of blows. The referee let him continue, but Marquez was on him and hit him at will until referee Juan Jose Ramirez decided to stop the fight at 2:26.
