Trainer Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr., feels Manny Pacquiao would have knocked out Amir Khan - if the fight would have been put together for April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Khan, along with Terence Crawford and Timothy Bradley, was a frontrunner to face Pacquiao. After some initial talks and Khan waiting on the bench for an answer, Pacquiao selected Bradley as the opponent.
Jeff gives Pacquiao the edge based on chins. He says the fight would be over the minute Pacquiao connects with a solid punch.
"Pacquiao would beat Amir Khan because Amir’s chin is made of china, if he gets hit, he’s going out," Jeff told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Jeff doesn't like the way Khan reacts when opponents land clean punches to the head. He felt Khan got wobbled during his last fight, which came against former 140-pound champion Chris Algieri last May. Khan won a decision, but the fight was tougher than many expected. Jeff also pointed to Khan's fight from a few years ago, when he was dropped by Julio Diaz in 2013.
"He possibly could but the thing is that every time he gets hit with a clean shot — even against weaker opposition — he still wobbles like he’s about to go. Algieri wobbled him, Diaz dropped him and Diaz has never been a puncher and he’s way past his prime," Jeff said.
