Philippine light flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro failed to keep up his strong start after he suffered a fifth round knockout loss in Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) minimumweight championship fight on Wednesday in Thailand.

The 24-year old Jaro absorbed vicious body shots in the fifth round and was declared the loser by way of a knockout at 1:40 of the round when  he was floored by a big right hook to the belly by defending champion Pornsawan Kratingdaenggym.

Jaro controlled the opening round when he staggered the Thai champion several times.

A report from Thailand described Jaro “almost dropping the champion many times in the opening round” of the bout held at Rongkluo Market sa Sakaew.

It was Jaro’s third loss in as many bouts abroad. Last year, he lost to Mhikiza Myekeni by way of a 6th round TKO for the vacant WBC international flyweight belt in South Africa and to Angky Angkota with 6th round technical decision for the International Boxing Federation pan pacific light flyweight belt in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Jaro’s record dropped to 20-5-3 with 12 knockout while the World Boxing Association No. 4 contender Pornsawan kept his unblemished mark of 15-0, 12 KOs.
