Brian “Filipino-Hawaiian Punch” Viloria has not only successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight title, he also shot the win streak to 9-0, for Filipino boxers wiining bouts in the United States and Mexico this year.

Former WBC minimumweight champion Jose Antonio Aguirre became the fifth Mexican to lose in as many matches against boxers from the Philippines in Las Vegas alone, after he fell short against Viloria over 12 rounds Saturday at Aladdin Hotel-Casino.

The Philippines’ 35th world champ and 2nd WBC light flyweight boss next to Rolando Pascua, Viloria wins via unanimous decision, 116-112 twice and 117-111.

Aguirre was next in the list to the victims of Z Gorres and WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight boss Czar Amonsot, Jose Alfredo Tirado and Cristian Favela, respectively, on Feb. 3 at Orleans Casino.

On Jan. 21, Manny Pacquiao became the first fighter to knockout Erik Morales, who is Aguirre’s manager, at Thomas & Mack Center. Morales visited the canvas twice and declared out in the 10th round.

On the same card, RP super featherweight king Jimrex Jaca stopped Geronimo Hernandez in the first round in his US debut.

OTHER WINNERS IN AMERICA
Arkansas-based Pinay boxer Sarah Goodson registered her second victories in as many fights this year.

The 5-foot Pinay punished American Nikki Verbeck over 4 rounds at Pope County Fairgrounds in Russellville, Arkansas on Feb. 4. Her initial win this year was a first-round knockout against another American Felica Williams at Indian Center in Wichita, Kansas on Jan. 14.

Nonito Donaire, a native of General Santos City but based in Castro Valley in California, captured the vacant NABF super flyweight belt with split decision win over Armenian’s Kahren Harutyunyan on Jan. 20 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.

Unbeaten OPBF minimumweight king Rodel “Kid Rapido” Mayol also disposed of a Mexican opponent when he annihilated Lorenzo Trejo in the fourth round on Jan. 28 in Cancun, Mexico.
