Undefeated welterweight prospect Saul Alvarez (29-0, 22KOs) is likely heading to Golden Boy Promotions by 2010. Alvarez's manager Rafael Mendoza told The Record that advanced negotiations are taking place with Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy. Alvarez returns on December 5 against Lanardo Tyner in Tepic, Mexico.

De La Hoya told the paper that Alvarez, only 19-years-old, could be the next great Mexican champion. He is confident that a deal will get done with Alvarez.

"Alvarez is fighting on December 5 and I am already speaking with Rafael Mendoza about signing contracts. Our talks are very advanced and I am confident that we will work with him as his promoter," De La Hoya said.

"The people in the United States, they ask me about him, and that makes me think that Alvarez is in a privileged position where he can come to the United States and succeed. He has the tools. He knows how to fight. He has passion and the necessary things to be a great champion. I believe he can be the next one great Mexican champion."
