| Conflicted Reports Over Mikkel Kessler's WBA Title Status
|
|
By Per Ake Persson Is Mikkel Kessler the WBA super champion or not? And is Dimitri Sartison vs Stepjan Bozic on Saturday in Kiel. Germany, for the WBA "standard" title or is it for an interim title? There are conflicting reports from the WBA itself but word from Medellin, where the WBA have their convention, is that Kessler is super champ and that Sartison vs Bozic is for the interim crown. There is however also a report in Danish press where they quote Gilberto Mendoza as saying that Kessler is the WBA champ and that Sartison vs Bozic is for an interim title. Does it matter? Yes, down the road it does as the winner of Kessler vs Ward on Saturday in Oakaland will have mandatory defenses outside of the Super Six Tournament to take care of. Should Ward beat Kessler though, one wonder if he inherits the super champ status or not. It also deserves to be noticed that Kessler stopped Sartison last year when he regained the WBA title. IBF welterweight champ Isaac Hlatshwayo defends the title against Slovenian welter weightJan Zaveck December 11 in Johannesburg. Zaveck, 27-1-1, only got the word about the fight Tuesday (Nov 16) and thus hasen΄t got much time to prepare but he and trainer Dirk Dzemski are optimistic. Should Zaveck make it he will be the first Slovenian to win a world title. Jan is promoted by SES in Magdeburg, Germany. Swiss lightweight Patrick Kinigamazi headlines a show in Carouge November 27 that also feature French feather ruler Guillaume Frenois and jr middle Hamlet Petrosyan. Spanish super middleweight Jose Maria Guerrero takes on Blas Miguel Martinez at home in Ripollet November 20 in what is billed as an eliminator for the Spanish title. Martinez, 10-0, fights out of Switzerland though but is of Spanish descent. EBU featherweight champ Oleg Yefimovich defends the title against Andrey Isaev February 27 in Donetsk in an all-Ukrainian matchup. Funchal on the Portugese island of Madeira is the site for Vitor Sa vs Kiatchai Singwancha January 14 with the TWBA super middleweight title at stake. This could be the first ever professional boxing match there. This show is postponed from December 4. |

Who cares about that belt anyway, the tourney winner would still own the division. They should take it away from who ever holds it in the tourney, and find a joke paper champ (like the WBO), and loose yet another bite of their remaining credibility.
It would be great if they got left out, no mor... |

Gotta love the sanctioning bodies and their sillyness....next thing you know Disney will be offering the Mickey Mouse belt, the 'Super' Goofy belt and the interim 'Hannah Montana' belt. |
